Technical Designer

Our UK-based client is a well-established organisation with over 50 years of experience delivering projects across the full building lifecycle, from workplace consultancy and technical design to full project execution. Known for their collaborative mindset, proven supply chain, and robust technical expertise, they are trusted for calm, capable delivery and outstanding service.

They are seeking a Technical Designer to join their growing team. The successful candidate will play a vital role in developing detailed design packs, producing technical documentation, and ensuring compliance throughout the design and build process. You’ll work closely with engineers, consultants, and suppliers to deliver projects that meet the highest standards of quality, buildability, and client satisfaction.

This is a remote position open to those living anywhere in South Africa.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Produce detailed CAD drawings and contract packs from RIBA Stage 3–5.
  • Create GA plans, elevations, RCPs, joinery details, and as-built documentation.
  • Ensure designs comply with UK Building Regulations, CDM, fire safety, and accessibility standards.
  • Write specifications and produce technical schedules for projects.
  • Collaborate with engineers, QSs, contractors, and suppliers to resolve technical challenges.
  • Provide site and project support to maintain design intent and accuracy.
  • Maintain and evolve internal CAD standards and design libraries.
  • Contribute to sustainability and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills, Experience & Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of technical design or construction detailing experience.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit (BIM workflow experience desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and compliance standards.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality drawing packages.
  • Excellent time management, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
  • Minimum 4–5 GCSEs (grades A*–C / 9–4), including Maths & English.
  • HNC/HND or Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Product Design, or related discipline (with CAD modules).
