The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Head of Finance and wider finance function with day-to-day financial operations. This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, processing supplier payments, assisting with month-end close, and supporting compliance and audit activities.
This is a remote position open to those living anywhere in South Africa.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance with daily accounting functions and bi-weekly partner payments.
- Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) efficiently.
- Oversee aged debtor management, reconciliations, and credit control.
- Handle stock accounting including stock valuation and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
- Manage and input accurate financial data into internal systems and spreadsheets.
- Liaise with external auditors and accountants to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Collaborate with senior finance stakeholders to develop and document standardised procedures.
- Contribute to ad hoc projects and financial analysis as required.
Skills, Experience & Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role (preferably FMCG or fast-paced sector).
- Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
- Experience using Xero and G-Suite (advantageous).
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, receivable, and reconciliation processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and organisational abilities.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
- Familiarity with audit processes and compliance requirements.
- Currently studying towards CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent (part-qualified or recently qualified).
- Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (advantageous).
