The Assistant Accountant will play a key role in supporting the Head of Finance and wider finance function with day-to-day financial operations. This includes managing accounts payable and receivable, processing supplier payments, assisting with month-end close, and supporting compliance and audit activities.

This is a remote position open to those living anywhere in South Africa.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Finance with daily accounting functions and bi-weekly partner payments.
  • Manage Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) efficiently.
  • Oversee aged debtor management, reconciliations, and credit control.
  • Handle stock accounting including stock valuation and balance sheet reconciliation.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Manage and input accurate financial data into internal systems and spreadsheets.
  • Liaise with external auditors and accountants to ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency.
  • Collaborate with senior finance stakeholders to develop and document standardised procedures.
  • Contribute to ad hoc projects and financial analysis as required.

Skills, Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role (preferably FMCG or fast-paced sector).
  • Proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets.
  • Experience using Xero and G-Suite (advantageous).
  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, receivable, and reconciliation processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Familiarity with audit processes and compliance requirements.
  • Currently studying towards CIMAACCA, or equivalent (part-qualified or recently qualified).
  • Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (advantageous).
